Matt Porritt

Matt oversees the development and strategic direction of the core of the Moodle learning management system.  In this session, Matt will provide insights and an overview of features in the Moodle LMS 4.4 release, covering areas of interest to teachers, students, administrators and developers.

Looking beyond the 4.4 release, we will also preview initiatives that are currently in their delivery and planning phases, giving attendees a glimpse of what is to come.

Jack Rice

Jack Rice is a career educator and academic leader; he currently serves as the Executive Director of the Maple League of Universities and the Director, Centre for Online Learning, Graduate & Professional Studies at St. Francis Xavier University. Previously, he was a Dean at Elizabethtown College and a Director in the School of Education at Loyola University Maryland.

Jack believes in the importance of community and creating connections among learners.  In this presentation, Jack will demonstrate how at STFX Online, he and his team use Moodle to engage and motivate learners to persist and feel connected.

Zahraa Saadallah

Zahraa is a performance and learning strategist dedicated to fostering meaningful, holistic learning approaches. With expertise in learning impact and user-centered design, she takes pride in challenging traditional norms, reshaping organizational perceptions of learning and development, and designing learning experiences that drive organizational success.

Drawing from her experience at the Registered Nurses of Ontario (RNAO), in this session, Zahraa Saadallah will discuss how RNAO incorporates a range of methods and strategies to support staff in building cyber security capacity while optimizing time and resources.

Gavin Henrick

Gavin Henrick is the CEO and co-founder of Brickfield Education Labs. He has 20 years experience assisting organisations to implement a range of education solutions including Moodle.

Gavin has co-authored three books – Moodle 2.0 for Business Beginner’s Guide, Moodle Administration Essentials and Moodle Add-ons – and has published a number of white papers and  educational guides including the Moodle 2 Toolguide and the Moodle Universal Design for Learning Guide.

In this session, Gavin will showcase some of the common barriers that get created in online content, how to avoid building them and how to fix them.

Fred Dixon

Fred Dixon is the CEO of Blindside Networks and has been the Product Manager for BigBlueButton since 2007. Fred is responsible for ensuring that BigBlueButton focuses on helping teachers to hold effective online classes.

In this session, you will discover the framework for evaluating effective use of AI and analytics in the virtual classroom, as well as how BigBlueButton is implementing this framework.

Fred will take us through specific examples and show us how to judge the effectiveness (or not!) of using AI in teaching virtual classes.

Patrick Thibaudeau

Patrick is the Director of IT Innovation and Academic Technologies at York University. The Department is committed to advancing the institution’s AI and emerging technology strategy, with a focus on technologies relevant to the academic field.

Patrick is an E-Learning and Moodle expert, focusing on the integration of technology with purpose and intention within educational environments. He has held this central role in the University’s Information Technology department for over 8 years and held a similar role at the University of Alberta.
